Go to Clifton Springs to hear Senator Douglas speak.  There were thirty cars in the train.  Most of the College went over.  There were, I should judge, about eight thousand persons present.  Mr. Douglas was hoarse and spoke with great effort and was not well heard.  He pronounced each syllable of every word just like a child learning to read.  There was not the slightest oratory in his speech.
