Go to Clifton Springs to hear Senator Douglas speak. There were thirty cars in the train. Most of the College went over. There were, I should judge, about eight thousand persons present. Mr. Douglas was hoarse and spoke with great effort and was not well heard. He pronounced each syllable of every word just like a child learning to read. There was not the slightest oratory in his speech.
