Receive a Committee – one from each class, to ask for a holiday to-morrow on account of the presidential election. I decline to grant it. The students not being voters and having no active participation in the proceedings. After the noon recitation they had a meeting of the whole College in Dr. Wilson’s room and an exciting discussion, but came to no conclusion. So after Evening Prayers I embraced the opportunity to place the whole thing before them in a good light. They then met and discussed the matter again and finally voted not to bolt. So order and conservative feeling finally triumphed.
